If you get melted chocolate all over your hands, you're eating it too slowly. ~Author Unknown

Make it Pretty

This page is dedicated to cakes and desserts I decorated for easy ideas or inspiration with a brief how-to or links directly to the source. Most if not all ideas can be made with any favorite dessert (cake) flavor/frosting combinations.

Devils Food Cake w/ Oreo Buttercream
The recipe for this cake is here. Between the layers of cake, I spread a layer of frosting and then with a spatula filled in remaining gaps between the layers and smoothed frosting around the edges. Frost on top, leaving sides of cake bare. I had a tub of chocolate frosting on hand, so I put it into a candy decorating squeeze bottle and made a simple diamond pattern across the top. Close to the time of serving, dollop with whip cream around cake (whip cream can melt if done too soon, if you have a good homemade whip cream, that might hold up longer). Place halved oreos over whip cream dollops, 2 halves in the center.

Cake Balls:  Using desired cake ball recipe, freeze cake balls until firm (about 2 hours). Melt vanilla candy coating (I prefer Wiltons). Take out about 5 cake balls at a time. Using a metal skewer, press into cake ball and swirl around in candy coating, tap skewer gently on side of bowl, rotating it slowly to allow excess candy coating to drip off. Place onto waxed paper, gently smooth over hole created from & repeat process until all cake balls are coated. With blue candy coating (or any other colored candy coating according to theme etc, mine were for a baby shower), Melt and pour carefully into a candy decorating squeeze bottle. Squeeze a swirl over each cake ball.

Directions the same as above, except use a yellow candy coating and after applying candy coating over the hole in the top, quickly sprinkle over top with multi-colored jimmies.

Wiltion Confetti Candy Coating, pink sugar sprinkles.

Reese's Peanut Butter Chips, with copper and gold colored jimmies

Using a sturdy frosting ( I made a buttercream using Wilton Sky Blue coloring for these). Pipe a large rosette using Wilton 1M tip. Top with sprinkles. (I used small round white sprinkles)
